What do arteries do?

Carry oxygen-rich blood AWAY from the heart

What do veins do?

Carry oxygen-poor blood TOWARD the heart

What do capillaries do?

They are the site of exchange of oxygen and nutrients in the blood for carbon dioxide and waste in the body. They are one cell thick, allowing cells to pass in single file.

Three pathways for blood to flow in the body?

Coronary Pathway - blood flow through the cardiac muscle cells in the heart Pulmonary Pathway - Pathway from heart to lungs and vice versa Systemic Pathway - Pathway between the heart & the upper/lower body
