Created by Mollie Baish

What is the endosymbiont theory?
An early ancestor of eukaryotic cells engulfed an oxygen using NONphotosynthetic prokaryotic cell. Eventually the cell formed a relationship with the host cell, becoming an endosymbiont, then later merging into one organism

What is the endosymbiont theory?
An early ancestor of eukaryotic cells engulfed an oxygen using NONphotosynthetic prokaryotic cell. Eventually the cell formed a relationship with the host cell, becoming an endosymbiont, then later merging into one organism
What 2 items in a cell does this explain?
Mitochondria and Chloroplasts
Both mitochondria and chloroplasts have?
1. double membranes 2. contain CIRCULAR DNA and ribosomes 3. both autonomous from cell
What types of DNA do mitochondria and chloroplasts have?
mtDNA and cpDNA, separate from nDNA
Scientists are unsure if?
1. unknown archaea engulfed a proteobacterium (mitochondria) and a cyanobacterium (chloroplast) 2. unknown bacteria and unknown archaea combined and engulfed the proteobacterium and cyanobacterium
