Earth facts

It's a medium-sized planet circling a rather average star among billions in the Milky Way Galaxy. Only planet that is known to have life. Third planet from the sun, and it 150 million km away from it.

Big Bang

Dominant scientific theory about the origin of the universe. The universe was created sometime between 10 billion and 20 billion years ago from a cosmic explosion that hurled matter in all directions. This theory predicts the existence of cosmic background radiation. Widely accepted but can never be proven.

Two facts indicating the Big Bang

1. Expanding universe - universe galaxies are moving away from one another at tremendous speeds. 2. Pervasive background radiation - 2.7 degrees above absolute zero (-273 degrees celcius) which is heat left over from the Big bang.

Solar system known facts

Part of the Milky Way Galaxy, consists of the sun, 9 planets, 64 known moons, many asteroids, millions of comets and meteorites, and well as interplanetary dust and gases.

Solar Nebula Theory

4.6 billion years ago the solar system started to form from the condensation and collapse of interstella material. About 90% of material became concentrated in the central part of the disk to form a proto-sun around which swirled a cloud called the solar nebula.

Pluto

August 24, 2006, pluto is no longer classified as a planet due to its small size. It's now a dwarf planet, which there may be lots of.

Oldest rocks and what they are made of.

The oldest rocks are 3.96 billion year old metamorphic rocks from Canada. Composed mostly of silicate compounds, iron and magnesium oxides, and small amounts of all other chemical elements.
