- what is the difference between a scientific law and a scientific theory?
a scientific law does not state why or how the pattern happens, but only that it will happen. A theory states why or how and will never become a law
- what are the 3 branches of science? what do they do?
physical: study of matter and energy; physics and chemistry earth: the many processes that occur on earth and deep within earth life: study of all organisms and the many processes that occur in them
- what is the difference between description and an explanation?
when you describe something, you report your observations, but when you explain something you interpret your observations
- what is the difference between an independent variable and a dependent variable?
Difference: independent is what you change in an experiment to see if it effects the dependant and the dependant id the thing you change
- what factors did they think might have been the cause in the bridge collapse, then what actually was the cause?
They thought that the bridge collapsed because of an overload, but it actually collapsed because the gusset plates failed.
- whats the difference between a live load and a dead load?
Difference: live loads do not stay with it but dead loads do

Ask questions → hypothesize and predict → test hypothesis → analyze results → draw conclusions → communicate results.

right after you identify the problem or ask a question (you want to research before you hypothesize)
