TermDefinition
Contingency shaped behavior
Behavior that is shaped based on an experience the person has had with the punished or reinforcer.
Contingent reinforcement or punisher
Behavior that shapes the reinforcement or punisher being delivered
Continuous Measurement
All instances of the behavior occurring are collected
Continuous Reinforcement
Reinforcement is provided after every occurrence of the desired behavior
Dependent group contingency
Reinforcement is delivered to a group based on the accuracy in performance of one individual from the group
Dependent Variable
The target behavior that is being measured which is affected by the intervention being implemented (independent variable)
Deprivation
Keeping a reinforcer or stimulus away from the client to increase the value of the reinforcer/stimulus
Differential Reinforcement
Only reinforcing a specific response from the learner and not reinforcing other responses
Differential Reinforcement of Alternative behaviors (DRA)
Only reinforcing alternative behaviors to the problem behavior and not reinforcing the problem behavior
Differential Reinforcement of Diminishing Rates (DRD)
Reinforcement is only rewarded when the behavior doesn’t occur a certain number of times under a predetermined time set.
Differential Reinforcement of High Rates of Behavior (DRH)
Reinforcement is provided only when the desired behavior occurs more than the preset criteria
Differential Reinforcement of incompatible behavior (DRI)
Giving reinforcement for a replacement behavior that cannot occur at the same time as the problem behavior.
Differential Reinforcement of Low Rates of Behavior (DRL)
Reinforcement provided to the client is dependent on if the client has not engaged in maladaptive behaviors after a certain amount of time
Differential Reinforcement of Other Behaviors (DRO)
Reinforcement provided is dependent on the client not engaging in the problem behavior during an allotted time but engaging in other behaviors instead.
Direct assessments
Assessments used to measure the behavior of a learner in addition to their current skills, and developmental needs.
Discontinuous Measurement
In discontinuous measurement, data on behaviors is not collected for the entire time. Behavior is recorded during specific time intervals instead of continuously.
Discriminative Stimulus (SD)
a signal in the environment indicates that a behavior is going to be rewarded or reinforced.
DSM-5
A manual or tool used to diagnose individuals with mental disorders based on meeting the criteria needed mentioned in the manual.
Ecological Assessment
An assessment used to gather information about the environment of the client in addition to their possible work environment and people they are around.
Effective
A behavior change that is clinically or socially significant to the learner and is one of the seven dimensions of ABA. How much of the behavior has to change to make a positive impact on the life of the learner
