AND PLEASE, LET ME BE YOUR GUIDE.
Jill, wake up, it’s almost two o’clock.
Ughh... five more minutes...
I’ve let you sleep all day.
Four more minutes?
Thirty seconds.
Victoriaaa!
We can’t just lay here forever.
Why not?
Because we’ve got things to do!
I don’t!
(Laughing:) Jill, stop!
Never! (Victoria pulls her to sit upright. Jill finally lets her out of the squeeze.) Fine, you win.
How are you feeling?
Really good.
Yeah?
Yeah. The last time I wolfed out I had a major wolf-hangover, but apparently that doesn’t happen when you have a positive experience.
Was I a part of that positive experience?
(Kidding:) Ehh, not really.
Ah, dang. Maybe next time.
I even got a tattoo-- did you notice?-- but it’s gone now. I still can’t believe I was brave enough. Travis said that--
Hey, don’t worry about Travis right now. Where are you going?
How can I not worry about him? You said it yourself, there’s a target on all of our backs.
I shouldn’t have said that, I was just scared, and--
You weren’t wrong.
Maybe I was. I mean, in the past it’s always been a while between incidents. He’s probably taking a break. You’re safe, Jill.
No, I’m not.
What do you mean?
He told me not to tell anyone or he’d kill me. Now you know. He’s going to kill me.
Jill, it’s okay, I’m not going to tell anyone. The secret is safe with me.
Don’t you get it? We have to tell someone, or people keep dying. Either I die, or a hundred more girls die.
You’re not going to die.
So we just let him get away with it?
No. If we tell the police, they’ll get to him before he can get to you.
We can’t tell the police!
Why not?
Because if he wolfs out while he’s in jail, I don’t even want to imagine what’s going to happen to me. Or anyone else out there like me.
How would they know about you?
He’d tell them. Even if he didn’t, it’s just too risky. They’d see him as a threat because he’s a werewolf, not because of who he is. They’d think we’re all the same. They’d want to find all of us and take us away... or worse.
Who do we tell, then?
...Nobody, I guess.
So what do we do?
We have to kill him.
Kill him?!
It’s the only way.
You can’t kill him! They’ll arrest you!
Not if I’m a wolf they won’t.
And what if we fail?
“We?” There’s no “we.” I have to do this alone.
No, you don’t.
Victoria, I can’t risk you being a target, too.
Whether you want me to or not, I’m going to help. Please let me.
Fine. (Jill starts for the door.)
Wait, you’re leaving right now?
We can’t wait any longer.
Jill, it’s the middle of the day, how will you metamorphose?
What?
Transform, “wolf out,” whatever! You do need the moon, right?
I don’t know, I--
Jill, breathe.
I’m breathing.
No, I mean really breathe. Slow down. Think about this. How are you going to do it? Where are you going to do it? How are you going to make sure nobody sees you? What if he’s stronger than you?
...I don’t know.
Exactly. We need a solid plan before we put ourselves in harm’s way.
Right. You’re right. Sorry. I’m just really freaked out.
I know. It’s going to be okay. (Beat.) So... how does this wolf stuff work exactly?
Oh, I, uh, I skip my pill.
Really!
Yeah.
That’s so interesting.
I don’t know what’s worse: being on it, or being off of it.
What do you mean?
I mean I don’t really like what the pill’s doing to my body, but it’s nice not having to deal with... all of this. I don’t know, I just wish the options we had were better. Sometimes I wonder if I was just, like, made to suffer.
Sometimes I wonder that, too. (Beat.)
Sorry, I think I killed the vibe.
I don’t mind.
Speaking of killing stuff-- I want to take a page out of Travis’ book and do it in the woods.
That’s a really good start.
But I don’t even know where I’d find him in the first place, or how I’d lure him out there. I have no idea what his routine looks like.
Okay, well, do you know anyone who’s close to him?
No, I don’t think so.
So then that’s step one. Want to do some social media stalking?
How will we know they’ll be on our side? Or even believe us?
We don’t have to tell the whole truth.
I’m here about Travis. I need your help.
Guess we didn’t have to look for very long.
Well, uh... he’s sort of got this... affliction?
He’s a werewolf.
Nevermind. The point is, you know that he’s been--
--Killing women.
Right. And right now he thinks I’m on his side, but I don’t know how long that’s going to last. We have to stop him before he enacts his plan.
What’s his plan?
He wants to feed the girls to the frat.
Oh my God.
He can’t do that! We need the evidence!
Besides that, it’s just horrible. Those girls deserve to be returned to their families.
What?
Dogs sniff.
Oh.
We don’t want to tell the police, either. If Travis is arrested and morphs in jail, they’d come after everyone like him, including Jill.
Great minds think alike.
I’m just worried about the aftermath. I mean, if they somehow trace it back to Jill--
I’ve thought about that, too. I’ll take the blame.
Really? Why?
Wow, Parker. I don’t think that’s selfish, I think it’s really brave.
Y’all do have to stop roofieing people, though.
No, she’s right. Travis has only gotten away with all of this because of the things we’ve let slide. I’m sick of people turning a blind eye. I can’t stall for much longer; we have to act soon. He’s already suspicious of me because I told him, “We should dry age the meat for twenty-four hours first!”
Ew.
Ideally. If you need more time, I can try to get him to hold off for one more day, but he won’t be very happy.
Anything else we need to know?
Cool. Victoria, I assume you’ll just keep watch.
Yeah, I can do that. I’ll take a first aid kit too, just in case.
Great! Are we all on the same page?
Yeah, I’m in. Let’s do this.
