VES Searching Firefighter

Definition

Time starts when the searcher touches the ladder. Time stops when the searcher keys the microphone after exiting the room. The SFD time goal is 6:00 minutes. 1. Ladder the floor-two window on side Alpha. Radio: “Command from L94 Team Bravo, we are setting up for VES. Floor two. (Charlie-Delta or Alpha-Bravo) corner.” 2. Cover from standby, buddy check. 3. Climb ladder with NY hook / halligan, clear glass and mullion, and sweep edges. Sweep then sound the floor under the window with the tool. 4. Transition into the room by either A) sitting on sill, or B) controlled headfirst dive. 5. Look under the smoke for the door. State "I AM AT MY WINDOW. I SEE MY DOOR" 6. Isolate bedroom: move to the door, perform defensive search into the hallway, close the door. 7. Look under the smoke for the window; "I AM AT MY DOOR. I SEE MY WINDOW" 8. Rescue the victim. Move the victim to the window and transfer the victim to the oriented member. 9. Search the bedroom, via right hand or left hand wall technique, and check above and below all beds. 10. Exit bedroom. Descend ladder WITH TOOL and maintain positive grip on both beams of ladder. Radio: “VES is complete. One victim extricated. L94 Team Bravo has exited the building.”

Definition

Time starts when the searcher touches the ladder. Time stops when partner keys the microphone after exiting the room. The SFD time goal is 6:00 minutes. 1. Assist partner. Move to VES location and foot ladder after partner begins ascent. Place tools on ladder as needed. 2. Cover from standby, and climb the ladder following the searcher. 3. Receive a victim from the searcher, and descend the ladder. 4. Begin CPR until relieved, and then re-establish visual contact with searching member.
