A plan MADE by the UNION that featured: - Naval blockade from Louisiana to Virginia to stop the export of cotton - Control of the Mississippi River to divide the confederacy ------------------------------------------------ The Confederate's strategy was to wear out the Union with a DEFENSIVE war

Why didn't foreign armies help the Union or the Confederate?

The Confederate army expected help from France or Britain, but the Union army basically told them to back off and that it was their war to fight (they also couldn't afford having to be in debt with other countries AGAIN).

Shiloh

Led by Ulysses S. Grant, seemed like a Confederate win at first but the Union army locked in and won this battle.

McClellan

Hired as the Union Commander after Bull Run. Was popular with the Union troops. Very good at preparing armies but was OVERLY CAUTIOUS

Robert E. Lee

Hired after Joesph E. Johnston was wounded in battle. Lee took command of the Confederate army and was a good one

Antietam

An attempt BY LEE to invade the north. Happened near Sharpsburg, Maryland. Was the SINGLE BLOODIEST DAY in American history. Lincoln fired McClellan after the battle saying that he had "The Slows"
