Problem Solving Strategies
- looking for patterns - examining a related problem -examining a simpler case/ making a table - identifying a subgoal - make a diagram -work backward
inductive reasoning
finding patterns
Conjecture
a statement that is thought to be true but not yet proved to be true or false
How can you determine the validity of a conjecture?
- write a proof to prove it - try all the cases to prove it - find a counter example to disprove it
Deductive reasoning
using previous mathematical knowledge like theorems, proofs, definitions, ect. to show a statement is true
Sequences
an ordered arrangement of numbers, figures, or objects
Arithmetic sequence
a set number is added to a term to get the next term
